Welcome to JASL!

We’d like to welcome all our new swim team members. We hope that you will find our organization to be an enjoyable one. This program is designed for recreational enjoyment along with the advancement of competitive swimming skills.
As a new JASL member, you may find many of our procedures and terminology unfamiliar. We encourage you to ask other parents about any aspect of the team or speak with our coaches before or after practice sessions.
We encourage every parent to contribute to the success of our team. Some areas where you can help are sponsorships, respect our city pools’ rules, take an active part in our swim meet, and encouragement toward our swimmers and coaches.
Monthly bills will be mailed to your address on file. These include monthly coaching fees, meet entries, and personal items. We appreciate you keeping your bill current. Payments can be dropped in the black mailbox located near (not in) the pool’s office or mailed to our PO Box. Families with outstanding bills will not receive awards at the end of the season banquet nor will they be eligible to register to swim the following season.
There are a number of ways to stay informed about events or changes. Sign up for JASL alerts with the parish alert system, keep your e-mail current, and check the website www.jasl.org.
Meet sign up and entry forms can be found in the pool lobby area. Please check often as not to miss a sign up date. It is the parents’ responsibility to enter their child for events. If you give a coach permission to sign your child up for a meet, please sign an entry form since you are billed for each entry. If you cannot make it to the meet, please inform a coach but understand you are still responsible for the entry fee whether you swim or not.
We are privileged to be able to use our city pool for our team functions. However, this does not mean our members have special privileges in the pool. All must follow city guidelines. Please respect that the pool office is not the JASL office. The pool director is often available at the pool for pool business. Though he/she may also be a JASL coach/member, we ask that you consider his/her obligation to the pool and city first.
JASL is a member of USA Swimming and those guidelines state that only certified coaches and officials be on deck (area around pool) during practice. Parents, non-swimming siblings or other family members are not permitted on deck and will be asked to leave the deck area. If you need to speak to a coach, please do so before or after practice.
You will soon receive a handbook explaining our team program in more details. Until then, feel free to ask for help.
Good Luck! We are looking forward to another great swim season.
